Eco-revitalization extends life of artificial turf
Since 2018, the KNVB has been inspecting artificial turf fields according to a stricter usage standard. Many fields fail this inspection. Especially fields older than eight years. The cause? Dirt build-up, reduced cushioning and worn fibers.
Eco-revitalization offers a solution
Safe Sports Field cleans artificial turf fields deeply and thoroughly with a special technique. This eco-revitalization improves the sports technical properties and extends the life of the field. And it is done in an environmentally friendly way.
Unique collaboration with sandmaster
We cooperate with the German company Sandmaster. As an exclusive partner in the Benelux, we use their cleaning and filtering machine. This machine is specially designed for artificial turf fields. It cleans deep into the mat, without causing damage.
This is how eco-revitalization works
Beforehand, we always do a baseline measurement. We check:

We inspect the field at seven points, take photos of the mat and examine the build-up. That way we know exactly how deep we can clean. Everything is recorded in a report.
After the baseline measurement, we start the eco-revitalization. Afterwards, we measure everything again. That way we clearly see the difference. The client receives a clear report with all the results.
Cleaning in four steps
The machine consists of four parts:

the foredeck

the water tank

the waste tank

the aft deck
The water tank has a capacity of 1,000 liters. Through a hose, the water flows to the foredeck with multiple nozzles. While driving, the machine sprays water under high pressure in two directions across the field. This washes but does not suck up the infill. The dirt is sucked up together with the water and transported to the waste tank at the back of the machine. This has a capacity of 500 liters.
At the back of the machine is a brush that straightens the fibers back up. At the same time, the infill is neatly distributed across the field.
Unique filtration system: stops 99.996% microplastics
In addition to cleaning the fields, the contaminated water and dirt from the mat is also filtered. This is done thanks to a mobile unit that stands next to the field during revitalization. When filtering this dirt, a hose is attached between the waste bin and the mobile unit, which flushes the contaminated water right into the unit. The contaminated water passes through as many as six filters, which become progressively finer, so that the water is completely cleaned. This way of filtering artificial turf fields is unique. As much as 99.996% of the microplastics are left behind during this filtering process. As a result, the microplastics do not return to the environment. No other deep-cleaning method achieves these percentages. So in addition to a clean field, the field is more playable and is also revitalized in an environmentally friendly way.
Sandmaster is currently working on a closed system. With this, the filtered water flows back into the machine. We dispose of the aspirated dirt at the environmental site.
Applicable to almost any field
Eco-revitalization is possible under almost all conditions. Only snow and severe frost can throw a spanner in the works. We have already cleaned SBR fields and fields with TPE. Even cork and water hockey fields can be cleaned this way.
