With the transition from solvent-based to water-based coatings on sports floors, many complaints arose about reduced grip, slipperiness and even injuries.
The dedication of owner André van Gerwen to address this problem has ensured, that since 2014 Safe Sports Flooring is a household name in advising, inspecting and revitalizing all types and brands of sports floors.
From gymnasium floors to sports halls
A safe and durable sports floor is the desire of every sports hall manager. More than 10 years ago, a highly respected colleague said to André, “You can learn from trying.” After a course on chemistry and materials, he was allowed to put a test piece on a sports floor that was too slippery. No one had a solution for this and this unsafe sports floor – just seven years old – was about to be replaced. With proper maintenance, this sports floor lasted ten years longer. Only last summer was the floor renewed. This example shows how the right approach can save major costs and ensure sustainable use of sports floors.
A unique approach that restores safety and performance
Safe Sports Flooring works with a special approach based on Sinner’s Circle. This is a combination of mainly operations, cleaning agents and time. A revitalization goes beyond a regular cleaning and really makes a difference because it removes the contaminated layer and restores the sports technical properties such as skid resistance and gloss value of the sports floor. Our measurements clearly show the difference before and after maintenance, and graphs and reports make these results easy to understand for administrators and decision makers.

Like Kiwa ISA Sport, we strive for safe, sustainable and high-quality sports facilities. With the Inspection and Maintenance Advice Certificate, we strengthen our cooperation and take an important step towards a future in which sports safety is central. Therefore, we are proud that Kiwa ISA Sport recognizes our work and supports our mission: “a safe sports floor for every athlete.”
The certificate confirms that our work meets the high requirements of the Indoor Sports Flooring Quality Mark. Process control, professional competence and performance criteria are thus guaranteed.
In addition, we are ISO9001 and VCA certified and a member of industry associations BSNC and VSG.
Cooperation and knowledge transfer raise the level of inspection and maintenance of sports floors. We have been appointed “Sika Approved Inspector” by Sika – supplier of Pulastic sports floors.
At Safe Sports Flooring, safe sports, inclusiveness and social enterprise are always at the heart of our business. With PSO Step 3, we demonstrate, that we are at the forefront when it comes to providing employment to people with a vulnerable employment position.
