Also important: maintain the areas outside the fence as well

With the days getting longer and the weather still "wet," the period of algae, moss and weed growth is once again upon us. It costs many a sports park manager headaches to combat this. We often see that there is a lot of focus on controlling algae and weeds on the field, but no attention is paid to it outside. And that's just as important! The nutrients for algae and weeds come from outside the field. With the wind, these come up and into the mat. Here are some tips:

  • Ensure that the area outside the fields is regularly cleared of weeds
  • Regularly go over the sports park with a leaf blower
  • Regular sidewalk sweeping will not create a breeding ground for weeds
  • Place billboards on the side(s) where there are trees and shrubs
  • Make sure there are plenty of clean running mats when entering the field
  • Clean cleaning mats regularly
  • Ensure that proper and clean shoes are worn on the athletic field
  • If walking in on a natural grass field: make sure grass clippings are removed
  • Remove sand and organic material from fencing
