gloss value and gloss level

What does sheen do to safety on the sports floor?

Gloss value is an important part of our sports floor measurements

Gloss is the result of saturation by grease, sweat, blood and dander. A shiny sports floor is often associated with slipperiness. We measure gloss value or shine with a gloss meter and it provides insight into the condition and safety of the floor. During our sports floor inspections, gloss measurement is a regular part. The higher the gloss value or sheen degree the more saturation or wear is present and the greater the light reflection on the floor.

Too much gloss is detrimental and dangerous for the athlete

Indirect light on a shiny sports floor creates veil light that reduces athletes’ ability to see. This is detrimental in ball sports such as indoor field hockey or racquet sports such as badminton because the ball or shuttle “disappears” in the light. Glare and glare blind athletes, lowering their ability to react. This creates danger, game misconduct and injury.

How to avoid too much gloss?

With proper maintenance, periodic cleaning and the right detergents, you can prevent the sports floor from taking on a shiny, glossy appearance. In addition, we recommend periodic revitalization. This restores the sports floor to its original dull appearance and also returns the proper roughness. This contributes to safety and optimal sports and game enjoyment for every sports floor user.

Wear care for rapid saturation and complaints such as slipperiness and glare. If wear is the cause of excessive gloss, then the application of a new sports technical coating is recommended. In doing so, we extend the life of the sports floor.
